FACE believes that training and capacity building of staff is essential in order to ensure the best care possible for the children as well as staff motivation. For this reason, important resources are allocated to training. All staff, whether a director, social worker, cleaner, accountant… receive an initial full training on Child Protection and Child Rights as soon as they start their job. All trainings are interactive and concrete, through practical and recorded role play sessions.

Technical support to government and local NGO’s
There is a major gap in the child welfare system in Egypt. Children victim of violence, exploitation and neglect are in critical need of qualified professionals able to prevent and respond to potential harm of children.
In response to this situation, FACE decided to avoid opening more centers and rather concentrate on improving care in existing local institutions and therefore spreading quality support to a much larger number of children. This has become possible today with FACE’s knowhow and many years of experience on the ground. Collaboration starts with an assessment phase with the partners to create a technical support plan adapted to their situation and needs. FACE currently provides training to several local NGOs and works in close collaboration with the Ministry of Social Solidarity to support the national strategy.
FACE created its own “Child Protection Policy and Procedures"
based on the Egyptian Child Law and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989), Article 19. It provides a framework of principles, standards and guidelines to protect the child from all forms of physical or mental violence, injury or abuse, neglect, exploitation, including sexual abuse. FACE is committed to put in place these procedures within all its programs and among its partners projects. UNICEF requested FACE to train the Egyptian “Child Protection Centers” in Cairo and Greater Cairo on Child Protection.
FACE participated in a national assessment of orphanages
in 2016, for the Ministry of Social Solidarity, as a preliminary step taken by the Minister to evaluate the situation of the institutions in Egypt and see what measures need to be taken to either close institutions, or drastically improve the others by technical support and training.
